Rabbi Dorit Edut was ordained in 2006 after completing her studies at the Academy for Jewish Religion, a pluralistic Jewish seminary, in Riverdale, NY. She served as student rabbi during her years of study at the Kane Street Synagogue (Conservative) in Brooklyn, NY, the Progressive Congregation (Reform) of Boro Park, NY and Temple Benjamin (Reform) of Mount Pleasant, MI. Upon her return to Michigan she became the congregational rabbi for the Temple Israel (Conservative) of Bay City, MI from 2006-2010.

For almost 40 years, Rabbi Edut has been a Jewish educator in both the Metro Detroit area and in NYC. She has taught children of all ages as well as adults, trained Hebrew teachers, and administered two Jewish congregational schools. Recently she has been involved in efforts to revive the Downtown Synagogue and to revitalize the city of Detroit through interfaith connections.

Prior to her rabbinic training, Rabbi Edut was a family and crisis counselor, working for various agencies and schools in both Detroit and its suburbs. Here she did both individual and group counseling, focusing on anger management, conflict resolution, resolving grief issues, and building self-esteem. Through her interventions, she was able to help a number of at-risk students successfully complete high school and be accepted at state colleges or trade schools; she also helped numerous families to create loving, supportive and open communication systems. She received her training in counseling by completing her M.Ed. at Wayne State University.
